Polyvine MouldGuard Fungicidal Cleaner – Clean, Treat & Protect Wood from Mould

Polyvine MouldGuard Fungicidal Cleaner is a ready-to-use, high-performance treatment designed specifically for wood. It removes mould, mildew, algae, and bacteria while sterilizing the surface and helping protect wood against future biological growth.

Its water-based, thixotropic formula clings to both vertical and horizontal surfaces, making it ideal for preparing interior and exterior timber before painting, staining, or varnishing. MouldGuard penetrates into the wood to provide longer-lasting protection against mould and mildew.

Key Features:

  • Kills Mould Before Decorating – Treats contaminated timber / wood before painting, staining, or varnishing

  • Long-Lasting Biocidal Protection – Penetrates the wood and continues to protect against mould and spores

  • Targets Multiple Types of Growth – Helps eliminate mould, mildew, algae, and bacteria

  • Interior & Exterior Use – Suitable for woodwork both inside and outside the home

  • Bleach Free – Cleans and treats timber without relying on bleach

  • Ready to Use – No mixing or dilution required

  • Versatile Application – Apply by brush, roller, or spray

Ideal Applications:

(Please review Technical Data Sheet linked below)
  • Exterior woodwork

  • Interior timber and woodwork

  • Garden furniture

  • Decking and timber structures

  • Wood cladding

  • Wood being prepared for painting, staining, or varnishing

  • Hardwood and softwood surfaces affected by mould, mildew, or algae

Application Instructions:

  1. Remove Surface Growth: Scrape and brush away loose debris, organic growth, and surface contamination. Wooden surfaces should be prepared back to a porous surface so the treatment can penetrate the timber.

  2. Apply to Dry Wood: For optimum biocidal effectiveness, apply MouldGuard to a dry surface using a brush, roller, or suitable spray application.

  3. Work Into the Surface: Scrub affected areas with an appropriate brush after application. When primarily using MouldGuard as a cleaner, do not allow the product to dry out during this stage.

  4. Allow to Work: For cleaning, allow the product to work for up to 20 minutes. Heavily contaminated areas may require a second treatment.

  5. For Treatment Before Recoating: When treating wood before applying a new coating, allow MouldGuard to remain on the timber for 24 hours. This allows the solution to penetrate the wood and maximizes its biocidal effect.

  6. Rinse: Rinse or wipe the treated surface with clean water to remove residues and dead biological growth.

  7. Dry Completely: Allow the wood to dry thoroughly before applying paint, stain, varnish, or any other finishing product.

Mould and mildew should be properly treated before refinishing wood rather than simply being covered with paint or varnish. Polyvine MouldGuard helps prepare contaminated timber for a new finish while providing additional protection within the wood against future biological growth.

    Important Application Tip
MouldGuard is designed to treat the wood before it is recoated, not simply clean the visible surface. For maximum biocidal effectiveness before painting, staining, or varnishing, Polyvine recommends allowing the treatment to remain on the timber for 24 hours so it can penetrate the wood.

After treatment, rinse or wipe the surface with clean water to remove residue and dead growth, then allow the timber to dry completely before applying your finishing products.

Safety: This is a fungicidal treatment. Always read the product label, Technical Data Sheet, and Safety Data Sheet before use. Wear appropriate protective equipment and keep out of reach of children.
