Polyvine Craquelure System – Authentic Crackle Finish for Furniture & Decorative Surfaces

Create a timeless, antique look with the Polyvine Craquelure System — a two-part acrylic coating that mimics the fine cracked varnish of old porcelain and classical oil paintings.

This finish is a favorite among furniture refinishers, decorative artisans, and professionals working in theme parks and luxury resort interiors. It adds historical depth and texture to cabinets, furniture, wall panels, signage, and art installations.

Why Professionals Choose Craquelure

  • Authentic Crackle Effect: Achieve a realistic aged finish, perfect for heritage restoration or vintage-inspired design.

  • Two-Part System: Consists of a base coat and top coat that react to create natural crack patterns.

  • Professional-Grade Performance: Durable and reliable for commercial and high-traffic decorative applications.

  • Versatile Use: Works on wood, canvas, and decorative surfaces with appropriate prep.

  • Trusted in Commercial Settings: Frequently used in themed environments like Disney-style parks, resort lobbies, retail boutiques, and film sets.

Ideal For:

  • Furniture refinishers looking to add aged texture

  • Wall paneling in themed rooms or vintage-style interiors

  • Boutique artisans and sign painters

  • Resort and hospitality decor specialists

How to Use

  1. Apply a base coat in your desired color.

  2. Brush on the Craquelure Base Coat (Step 1).

  3. Once dry, apply the Craquelure Top Coat (Step 2).

  4. Cracks will appear as the two coats interact.

  5. Highlight cracks with antiquing medium or glaze, then seal with a clear finish.

Tip: The size of the cracks can be influenced by brush direction and dry time.

Please remember that both the base coat and the top coat are required to create this stunning effect. Simply make your selections in the drop-down box to get started.

    Helpful Project Tip:
Every finishing project is a system involving wood type, surface preparation, application method, and the combination of products used together. Always apply a small test area (on a hidden spot or scrap) using your full product stack — stain or paint followed by Polyvine — before coating the entire project. This confirms compatibility between layers; you are not just testing Polyvine, but the interaction of all materials used in the project.

Good to Know: If any base product contains oil or wax (including many products with “oil” or “wax” in the name), allow adequate time for full cure before applying a water-based finish. Follow the other manufacturer’s cure-time guidance, then allow additional buffer time within your test period. Some products that feel “dry” may still be curing, and water-based topcoats can be less forgiving if wax- or oil-based solvents are still evaporating (out-gassing) from the layer beneath.
